“Don’t ask what the government can do for you; ask what you can do for the government.” The words of the great JFK John F. Kennedy himself, it really has impacted a lot of Americans during his time. Hopefully it can also reach all of us Filipinos. The problem with us is that we want everything instant. Instant solutions, instant relief, instant everything, and if we don’t get what we want, we blame it all on the government for their deficiencies and start handing out complaints, instead of just doing their jobs. Sometimes I just wish that I can tell the people that complain to be and the leaders’ shoes and tell them when they say they want out, “I told you so.” I’m not saying that I’m a pro-administration person, I know they really have to clean out some of the mess they did, what I’m saying is that the people should just do their jobs and don’t add to the burden of our leaders. Because in reality, there isn’t anything instant. Our problems here can’t be worked out overnight. We all have our responsibilities to help our country. We need to do our part too. We just can’t rely on our leaders to provide the solution. We need to help them. Don’t be part of the pollution, be part of the solution.

well said. however, you could have said more...to inspire more people.
I agree with this post. I believe we Filipinos think most, if not all, our problems can be solved in a snap! I think our culture has much to this with all this mess we're in; and this culture is an adaptation, or a response, to all that happened in our country as years progressed. Thus, whatever culture we have, it has developed over time, and changing it will take a long time as. Look at how addicted we are to game shows and the lottery, all of which give as a chance to win and become instant millionaire. When someone wins, what does he do? He spends incessantly and has the mentality of a "one day millionaire," thus not looking at what will happen tomorrow and caring only for today. thus, the cycle goes on and on, and i believe the cycle even becomes more vicious as the world becomes more competitive! We have been left behind by our neighbors, fellowmen! If we want to change something, we better start now.. and not expect that our problems are solved tomorrow! All these problems took time to happen, and any solution will need time to materialize.
We should always keep in mind that change should start with ourselves :)
tol nice blog. well said! couldn't agree with you more. we really need to stop thinking that our problems will go away like that!
I agree with your point. Also, the problem with us Filipinos is that we lack unity and we lack a sense of vision. Some of us just merely wait for others to do something to help them, they don't help themselves first. Also, we do not think of the future and we rely this "future" to the hands of the government officials. We think that their job is that easy but actually it isn't. Though you are right when you said that the government officials should first fix the problem within themselves. They should stop fighting about who gets the seat of who. Instead of devoting their time in these fights, they should just divert their attention in improving the country's situation.
pare!!! i like the last sentence!!! that "saying" will be stuck on my head for the next few weeks... :)
Although I totally agree with you...
I will keep my comments to the DarkSide! (corny!)
With today's Filipinos, we tend to blame someone else's for our problems... and that "someone else" is the government. why? because it's one of our SOCIAL OBLIGATIONS as a filipino citizent; to complain to the government for making such a crappy JOB!.. We, the people of the nation, corrects their mistakes; however, the government keeps denying that we are right.
